in Wawa are advising the public that a male and female subject have been
apprehended regarding to a recovered stolen vehicle. The OPP assisted Wawa Police Service in
this investigation and the media release put out earlier is now cancelled.

POLICE SEARCHING FOR TWO SUBJECTS RE RECOVERED STOLEN
VEHICLE
(WAWA, ON.) – Superior East OPP in Wawa are presently
searching the area just south of Wawa near Highway 17 & Pinewood Drive
for two subjects who fled the scene when police discovered they were driving
a stolen car. The two are described as
being in their early 20’s; one male and one female. They were last seen behind The OPP
Detachment heading south. The public
is advised NOT to pick up any hitchhikers and if anyone matching this
description is observed to call The OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Do not approach these individuals.

CONSTRUCTION BLAST CAUSES DAMAGE
(HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On September 1, 2010 at
approximately 10:30 am Superior East OPP in HORNEPAYNE were dispatched to a
scheduled construction blast at the corner of Third and Front Street. A contractor was conducting blasting
operations to clear some property and as a result a number of large rocks
flew a distance from the site causing damage to three vehicles and broke
windows and damaged a roof in buildings near the area. There were no injuries as a result of this
incident. The OPP is presently at the
scene awaiting the arrival of The OPP Identification Unit and The Ministry of
Labour who will be investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident.

DISQUALIFIED DRIVER IN POSSESSION OF MARIHUANA
(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On August 29, 2010 and 8:49 pm
Superior East OPP in White River were patrolling on Highway 17, Vasiloff
Township near South White River had occasion to stop a 1997 Chev Malibu for
speeding. The female driver identified
herself and indicated that she was prohibited from driving as a result of a
previous Impaired Driving conviction.
This was confirmed through a subsequent record check. Further investigation also revealed that
the driver was in possession of a small amount of marihuana. As a result Megan Anne CARLISLE
age 25 of LONDON, Ontario
has been charged with;
Drive While Disqualified contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
along with a 45 day vehicle impoundment;
Possess Marihuana under 30 grms contrary to the Controlled
Drug and Substance Act.
The accused will appear in Wawa Criminal Court on October 25, 2010 to answer to the
charges.

BOAT AND MOTOR STOLEN ISLAND
LAKE
(CHAPLEAU, ON.) –
On August 28, 2010
Superior East OPP in Chapleau received
a report that a boat and motor had been stolen from a cottage located on Island
Lake Road in Caverley Twp near Chapleau. Sometime after 1
am a 16 foot
grey deep and wide aluminum boat with a white/grey 1988 Yamaha 8 hp outboard
motor had been removed from the property.
Also taken was a green closed face rod and reel; a tackle box and two
new oars. Total value is estimated at
$1000.00. Anyone with any information

B.C. Driver Charged With Stunt Driving
(WAWA, ON.) – On August 24, 2010 at 1:45 pm Superior
East OPP in Wawa were patrolling northbound on Highway 17, Peever Twp at
Montreal River. A southbound Honda
Civic entered RADAR at 154 km/hr and was subsequently stopped. The male driver, Soonwoong KWON age 22 of BURNABY,
B.C. was issued a summons for Operate Motor Vehicle while Performing a Stunt
contrary to the Ontario Highway
Traffic Act. The vehicle and his
driver’s licence was seized for seven days as a result. He will appear in Wawa
Traffic Court on October 21, 2010 to answer to the charge.

CLOSE CALL FOR CANOEISTS
(WAWA, ON.) – On August 20, 2010 Superior East
OPP in Wawa received a report that three individuals in a canoe
had become swamped on Lake Superior approximately 4 kilometres from Agawa
Campground in Lake Superior Provincial
Park. The Park is located on Highway 17, 85 kilometres south of
Wawa. The three subjects were wearing
their life preservers at the time.
Fortunately once the canoe became swamped the subjects were able to
lift one of the group back into the canoe and bail it out. As a result they were able to hang on to
the vessel and paddled back to shore safe and sound prior to police arrival. The three males ranging in age from 12 to 18 years of AMARANTH TWP., Ontario
received no injuries as a result of this incident. The OPP remind all boaters that wearing
life preservers while on the water will help ensure that these types of incidents
come to a positive conclusion for everyone involved. ALWAYS WEAR YOUR LIVE PRESERVERS!
BREAK, ENTER AND THEFT AT HORNEPAYNE
SCHOOL
(HORNEPAYNE, ON.) – On August 22, 2010 Superior East
OPP in Hornepayne received a report that person(s) unknown had broken
into the Holy Name of Jesus School
on Neesomadina Avenue
sometime between August 20 and 22, 2010.
Entry was gained by prying open a window on the south side of the
building. Once inside suspects removed
various electronic items from the school including an Apple Laptop; one
I-Pod; one JVC Digital Camcorder; one BOSE I-Pod docking station as well as
various accessories valued at approximately $2500.00. Suspect(s) then left the school through the
front entrance. No other damage was
reported to the premises. The OPP is
asking the public’s assistance in apprehending those responsible for
this crime. Anyone with any

STUNT DRIVER CHARGED DOING 143 KILOMETRES/HR
(WHITE RIVER, ON.) – On August 22, 2010 Superior
East OPP in White River were conducting RADAR patrol on Highway 17 south at
Vasiloff Township near the Depew River.
A southbound 2000 Toyota
Solara, black entered the RADAR at 143 kilometres in a posted 90 kilometre zone. The male driver, Kamil Michal STOJ, age 19
of WINDSOR, Ontario was stopped and subsequently charged with Drive Motor
Vehicle while Performing a Stunt.
Further investigation also indicated that Mr. STOJ was driving while
his driver’s licence was suspended.
He will appear in Wawa traffic court on October 21, 2010 to answer to the two Highway Traffic
Act charges. His vehicle was seized
and impounded for 7 days. His Ontario
Driver’s Licence was seized and returned to Ministry of Transportation.
STUNT DRIVER CHARGED DOING 178 KILOMETRES/HR
(WHITE RIVER, ON.) -
On August 23, 2010 at 4:48 pm Superior East OPP in White River were
approximately 5 kilometres
south of White River on Highway 17. A
northbound 2000 Toyota Corolla, white
was observed proceeding at a high rate of speed. The vehicle entered the RADAR beam at 178 kilometres in a posted 90 kilometre zone. The vehicle was stopped and the driver
advised of the infraction. As a result
the male driver Syed Omar GILANI, age 18 of LONDON, Ontario
was issued a summons for Drive Motor Vehicle while Performing a Stunt
contrary to the Ontario Highway
Traffic Act. His Driver’s
Licence and vehicle were impounded for 7 days. He will appear in Wawa
Traffic Court November 19, 2010 to answer to the charge.
