EAGLE LAKE RESIDENT ADVISORY

OPP MOCK SCENARIO EXERCISE ACTIVITY

OPP Recruit Boot Camp

Hockey Opportunity Camp, Eagle Lake, South River

(SOUTH RIVER, ON) – Between August 30 and September 03, 2010, there will be increased activity in and around the Hockey Opportunity Camp on Eagle Lake in South River as OPP and local emergency services respond to a number of mock scenarios.   This is a training exercise for police, fire and ambulance and involves the youth participants in the OPP Recruit Boot Camp.

Please be advised that local residence in the Eagle Lake area may see or hear responding emergency vehicles with full emergency lights and sirens activated as responders work through training exercises  - a fatal marine collision, a fatal two vehicle motor vehicle collision and a robbery suspect search.

Youth from across northeastern Ontario will be participating in this week-long camping experience.  A community policing and recruitment initiative, OPP Recruit Boot Camp has been developed for Grade 10 and 11 students.  Thirty student participants have been selected from detachment areas across the OPP’s North East Region.

OPP Recruit Boot Camp counsellors are OPP officers – both male and female and are supported by experienced HOC staff.  With each activity, campers will experience the opportunity for personal growth, friendship, individual challenge and improved self-confidence – all in a safe and enjoyable camp experience.
