News Flash Police Reports August 30-31, 2010

(NAPANEE, ON) –  Collisions on Hwy 401, construction area

OPP Napanee investigated 2 collisions last night, August 30, 2010 at 10:45 p.m. Construction on Hwy 401 west bound in Quinte West area caused a traffic delay and back up.  A minor collision involving a Laidlaw truck and vehicle caught the attention of many other motorists as traffic came to a stop.  Both drivers pulled over onto the shoulder and had a verbal argument; the driver of the car went back to his car, locked the doors and called Police.  The investigation is currently on-going.  A few kilometres ms apart, another minor collision happened between a Cat Transport and a car in heavy, backed up traffic.  Police attended the scene to investigate.  No charges have been laid at this time in both collisions.  Due to construction between Napanee and Trenton, the Hwy is periodically reduced to one lane with clear signs and indications of lane closures warning motorist to slow down due upcoming lane closures.   Throughout the day and night, motorists were observed ignoring the signs and coming up to slow moving traffic at a high rate of speed, which causes havoc, road rage and concern for everyone’s safety.    No one was injured in those two incidents.

OPP Napanee would like to remind drivers to pay extra attention to construction signs indicating speed limit and lane reductions.  Fines double in construction area when workers are present, Section 128(14)(1) of the Highway Traffic Act.
