FASTER YOU GO, THE HARDER YOU HIT Lambton OPP are
warning motorists that driving a motor vehicle is a serious responsibility
that requires the utmost care and attention.
This is following recent preventable crashes where several vehicle
occupants have sustained long term critical injuries. Recently, a crash on
Highway 402 on In both of these crashes,
excessive speed was found to be a contributing factor. With the
responsibility of driving, there are many things we cannot control. Things
such as what another driver may do, the weather conditions, mechanical
failure of a tire or vehicle part, will an animal dart into your path or the
reaction time of the driver. One thing we have
total control of is the speed we operate our vehicle at. When a vehicle car is travelling at an
excessive speed, a driver will have less time to identify hazards and react
to what is happening around them. It takes vehicles a greater distance to
stop from higher speeds, and if there is a crash, the injuries will be more
severe. It is a fact that crashes related to driving over
the speed limit are prevalent from April through the fall. Staff Sgt Chris
Martin, Manager of Operations with the Lambton OPP says” Road safety
here in He goes on to
say” If motorists were to adhere to the following tips, then we will
reduce overall collisions, prevent injuries and save lives.” Know the limit, do the limit. Continually monitor your speed. Use your cruise control on the
highway. Adjust your speed for the
weather, road and/or traffic conditions. Set a good example. Be nice to your pocket book -
save on gas, tickets, your license and your
insurance! Leave earlier, get there

want to remind residents to lock your vehicles, outbuildings and
residences. So far this morning, we
have received 3 calls for service where the victims have left easy access to
their valuables in unlocked parked vehicles.
We cannot stress enough that you must take a few extra minutes to
ensure your vehicles, residence and outbuilding doors and windows are locked. Please don’t
leave valuables in your parked vehicles.
Often thieves are watching you stash the important items under the
seat, in the glove box or in the trunk. Once you leave the area, they then
help themselves to your items. Do not
store your wallets or electronic devices including cell phones and GPS
systems in your vehicles overnight.
You are just asking to have these items stolen when you don’t
take them inside. Also, check your
vehicle owner’s manual or talk to your mechanic to see if your vehicle
has a lockout lever or switch that secures the trunk from being opened from
the passenger compartment. Ensure fold
down rear seats are secured by their locking mechanisms as well before
securing items in the trunk. Take the extra time
to lock it up so you don’t lose it! - 30 - Contact: Constable Chrystal Jones Lambton County OPP
