The S.A.V.E. unit is a specialized team, its members travel extensively throughout the North conducting educational sessions as well as enforcement initiatives along designated trail systems, roads, lakes and rivers.

A total of 25 charges were issued this past weekend alone. Eight owner/operator were charged with having improper mufflers, followed by four helmet, two documents, two insurance violations and several other single violations including speeding.

Governor General Awards Hearst OPP Officer the Medal of Bravery

(KAPUSKASING, ON.) –Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will present a Medal of Bravery at a ceremony at Rideau Hall tomorrow in Ottawa to Ontario Provincial Police Constable Gino Nolet of the James Bay OPP, Hearst Detachment along with Hearst volunteer firefighter Robert Ringuette.

The Bravery Decorations were created in 1972, to recognize people who risked their lives to try to save or protect the lives of others.  Medal of Bravery (M.B.) recognizes acts of bravery in hazardous circumstances.

HISTORY- On December 12, 2006, Constable Gino Nolet of the Ontario Provincial Police and volunteer firefighter Robert Ringuette rescued a man from a burning apartment, in Hearst, Ontario. Responding to a 911 call, Constable Nolet forced his way through the front door and climbed a narrow, smoke-filled staircase to reach the apartment. He kicked down the door and crawled inside to locate the occupant, but was forced back due to the thick, heavy smoke. Constable Nolet then re-entered the dwelling with Mr. Ringuette to recover the unconscious man and drag him outside. Sadly, despite their efforts, the man did not survive.

James Bay OPP Detachment Commander, Inspector Mike Demeules stated “ On behalf of myself, North East Region Command Staff and members of James Bay OPP; we congratulate Constable Nolet and Mr Ringuette. We are proud of the efforts and bravery exemplified that day by both these men in the line of duty and their commitment to keep Ontarians safe and secure”.
