WRONG WAY DRIVER CRASHES ON 410

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Friday March 5, 2010 at 8:45am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment along with emergency services personnel attended a single motor vehicle collision in the southbound lanes of Highway 410 north of Mayfield Road.

 

Investigation determined that a female driver was southbound on Highway 410 when she lost control and entered the west ditch.  She was able to free her motor vehicle from the ditch and re-entered the roadway, however in doing so she crossed several lanes of traffic and collided with the centre guard rail.  Even after this collision she was able to continue driving, however a short time later she slowed down in order to perform a u-turn on the highway.  Once turned around she began driving northbound in the southbound lanes towards oncoming traffic.  The driver was able to perform a second u-turn and continued driving in the proper direction.  The incident concluded when the driver drove into the ditch a second time, re-entered the roadway and collided with the centre cement barrier which disabled the vehicle.    

 

Remarkably, the driver sustained only minor injuries.  She was transported to Brampton Civic Hospital by Peel Regional Paramedics as a precaution.

 

After an investigation was conducted, including an assessment by an OPP Drug Recognition Officer, twenty-three year old Malisa TEIXEIRA of Brampton has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle (Drugs) contrary to section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, Dangerous Driving contrary to section 249(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada and Drive Motor Vehicle – No Insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

 

TEIXEIRA will be making her first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 22, 2010.

 

Caledon OPP would like to acknowledge the assistance of the Peel Regional Police and the motorists who stopped and offered their assistance during this incident and subsequent investigation. 

 

 

ALCOHOL

 

Forty-six year old Daniel GALLANT of Hillsburgh was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams of alcohol after an officer stopped him during a RIDE spot-check on Charleston Sideroad at Main Street on Thursday March 4, 2010 at 8:40pm.

 

GALLANT will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 8, 2010.

 

 

Thirty-seven year old R.J. FISHER of Orangeville was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams of alcohol after an officer stopped him during a RIDE spot-check on Highway 9 at Tottenham Road on Friday March 5, 2010 at 1:10am.

 

FISHER will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 8, 2010. 

 

 

Thirty-five year old Michael STEENSON of Caledon was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams of alcohol after an officer stopped him on Coleraine Drive and Healey Road on Friday March 5, 2010 at 2:20am.

 

STEENSON will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 15, 2010. 

 

 

A motorist contacted the OPP on Friday March 5, 2010 at 2:39am to report a suspected impaired driver on Highway 10.  The motorist continued to update the OPP on the location of the suspect vehicle until an officer conducted a traffic stop on Highway 10 near The Grange Sideroad.  As a result of the investigation, forty-one year old Piotr KOPYCINSKI of Brampton was charged with Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams of alcohol, Dangerous Driving and Fail to provide Breath Sample.   

 

KOPYCINSKI will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 8, 2010.

 

Twenty-three year old Anastasia VELLA of Milton was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle after an officer on routine patrol observed a motor vehicle stopped in a live lane of Highway 10 near Boston Mills Road on Sunday March 7, 2010 at 3:30am.

 

VELLA will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 15, 2010.

VEHICLE IMPOUNDED AFTER DRIVER CHARGED

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Saturday March 6, 2010 at 8:30pm a Caledon OPP officer conducted a traffic stop of a black Cadillac Escalade in the area of Highway 10 and King Street for a Highway Traffic Act violation. 

 

Police conducted an investigation and determined that the driver, twenty-six year old Colin KEEPING of Mississauga, was operating a motor vehicle while Disqualified from doing so contrary to section 259(4)(a) Criminal Code of Canada. 

 

KEEPING’S motor vehicle was impounded for 45 days under the Ministry of Transportation’s Vehicle Impoundment Program (VIP).

 

He is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 15, 2010.

DRUG WARRANT EXECUTED – 4 SUSPECTS CHARGED

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Tuesday March 2, 2010 at approximately 9:15pm members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau – Drug Enforcement Unit along with members of the Caledon OPP Street Crime Unit and the Nottawasaga Street Crime Unit executed a search warrant at 6148 Highway 9 in the Town of New Tecumseth.

 

Three adults were arrested without incident upon police arrival at the residence.  A quantity of cocaine, marihuana, prescription pills and Canadian currency was seized from the residence.  A fourth suspect turned himself into police on Friday March 5, 2010.      

 

As a result of the investigation, thirty-one year old Nadine RYAN and twenty-seven year old Daryl VERNER both of New Tecumseth and twenty-eight year old Josh CARINGI and twenty-two year old Ryan SUITOR both of Caledon were charged with the following offences:

 

Possession for the Purpose Schedule I Substance (Cocaine) contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession for the Purpose Schedule I Substance (Oxycontin) contrary to section 5(2) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession of Schedule II Substance (Marihuana) – under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

 

VERNER is facing an additional charge of Breach of Probation Order contrary to section 733.1(1) Criminal Code of Canada.

 

RYAN, VERNER and CARINGI made their first appearances in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Wednesday March 3, 2010. 

 

SUITOR made his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Barrie on Friday March 5, 2010.

(CALEDON, ON.) – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment is currently investigating an incident that occurred on Friday February 26, 2010 at approximately 5:00pm involving a female who fell in the parking lot at 1 Queensgate Blvd in Bolton.

SCHOOL BUS INVOLVED IN COLLISION – ONE PERSON SENT TO HOSPITAL

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Thursday March 4, 2010 at 7:40am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment along with emergency services personnel attended a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Healey Road and Coleraine Drive.

 

The resulting investigation determined that a black Lincoln pickup truck was southbound on Coleraine Drive when it collided with a school bus that was westbound on Healey Road.  

 

A teenage passenger in the school bus was transported to Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville with minor injuries.

 

The driver of the pickup truck, a fifty-one year old Caledon female, has been charged with Careless Driving contrary to section 130 Highway Traffic Act.

 

Caledon OPP is reminding residents to slow down and to pay extra attention along Coleraine Drive while construction upgrades continue.  Although traffic signals have been installed, they are not functional; therefore the intersection is still controlled by stop signs in all directions.

FOUR ARRESTED AT WINNERS IN BOLTON

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – Loss prevention officers from the Winners store at 471 Queen Street South in Bolton contacted the OPP on Wednesday March 3, 2010 at 7:30pm after a group of people inside the store were observed removing store sensor tags from new shoes.

 

Prior to police arrival one of the suspects left the store with a bag of shoes that had not been paid for.  Officers were provided a detailed description of the suspect and he was quickly arrested in the parking lot by members of the Caledon OPP Community Response Unit.  

 

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of three suspects inside the store.  A blue Toyota minivan was towed from the scene in relation to the on-going investigation. 

 

Forty-five year old Carl LAING of Toronto was charged with Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada and Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to section 129(a) Criminal Code of Canada.

 

Fifty-two year old Anthony STEWART of Ajax was charged with Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada and Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

 

Thirty-seven year old Petrona STEWART of Ajax was charged with Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada and Possession for the Purpose – Heroin contrary to section 5(2) Criminal Code of Canada.

 

Thirty-seven year old Princess TAVARES of Scarborough was charged with Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada and Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) Criminal Code of Canada.

 

All four suspects will be making their first appearances in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on Thursday March 4, 2010.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Caledon OPP would like to commend the efforts of the loss prevention officers from Winners who provided the responding officers with timely, accurate information and did not put themselves in a position where their safety could have been jeopardized.  As a result of their observations and quick thinking this incident has resulted in charges being laid.

ASSAULT CHARGE LAID AFTER TRAFFIC INCIDENT

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Friday February 26, 2010 at 7:30am officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment attended the area of Mayfield Road and Highway 410 after receiving a call from a motorist about an assault that occurred on the side of the roadway.

 

From the investigation, it was determined that the drivers of two motor vehicles, a red Honda Civic and a blue Subaru, were involved in a traffic related incident.  The incident escalated when the driver of the Honda exited his vehicle and confronted the driver of the Subaru while both vehicles were stopped at a red light.

 

The driver of the Honda left the scene prior to police arrival after assaulting the driver of the Subaru.  The suspect was arrested a short time later by police.

 

Forty-two year old James STINSON of Bond Head was charged with assault contrary to section 266 Criminal Code of Canada.

 

STINSON will be making his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Orangeville on April 8, 2010.

CRUISER DAMAGED AFTER MALE ARRESTED

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Saturday February 27, 2010 at 4:50am a good-Samaritan stopped to assist the driver of a motor vehicle who was in the ditch on County Road 109 west of Highway 10.  The Samaritan then contacted the OPP once they suspected the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol.  

 

Officers from the Caledon OPP attended the scene and after an investigation was conducted, nineteen year old Stephen HENDERSON of Orangeville was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, Refuse to Provide Breath Sample contrary to section 254(5) Criminal Code of Canada, Assault Peace Officer contrary to section 270(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada and Driving while Suspended (2 counts) contrary to section 53 Highway Traffic Act.

 

Additionally, HENDERSON was charged with Mischief Under $5000 contrary to section 430(4) Criminal Code of Canada after he intentionally damaged the police cruiser. 

 

His licence was suspended for a period of 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.

 

HENDERSON was held in custody and made his first appearance in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on February 28, 2010. 

 

 

ALCOHOL

 

On Friday February 26, 2010 at 10:30pm a motorist contacted the OPP to report a suspected impaired driver travelling northbound on Highway 10 from King Street in the Town of Caledon. 

 

The suspect vehicle, a white cube van, was reported to be travelling at a high rate of speed and was all over the road.     

 

The motorist continued to update the OPP on the location of the suspect vehicle until a Caledon OPP officer located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 10 north of The Forks of the Credit Road. 

 

After an investigation was conducted, fifty-two year old Thomas McGACHY of Mulmur Township was charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle contrary to section 253(1)(a) Criminal Code of Canada, Drive Motor Vehicle Over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to section 253(1)(b) Criminal Code of Canada and Possession of Marihuana – under 30 grams contrary to section 4(1) Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

 

His licence was suspended for a period of 90 days under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) program.

BANK ROBBERY IN BOLTON

 

(CALEDON, ON.) – On Monday March 1, 2010 officers from the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Caledon Detachment attended the CIBC located at 2 King Street East in Bolton in response to a robbery.

 

From the investigation it was determined that a lone male suspect entered the bank at 1:15pm and fled with an undisclosed amount of cash after handing the teller a note. 

 

The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 30 to 40 years of age, approximately 6’0” tall with an average build and a dark moustache and beard.  He was reportedly wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, dark pants with a white stripe down the leg, dark sunglasses and a beige winter hat with ear flaps that was covering the sides of his face.     

 

The suspect fled the bank on foot towards the Royal Courtyards at 18 King Street East and was last seen running eastbound on Willow Street.   

 

Several customers were present during the incident; however nobody was injured and there was minimal disruption to the customers and employees of the bank.

 

Investigators from the Caledon OPP Major Crime Unit are continuing their investigation and would like to speak to anyone who was in the vicinity of the bank or in the Royal Courtyards during the time of the robbery.
