RELEASE: IMMEDIATELY

PUBLICATION LE:  05th May 2008

FROM: Arnprior Detachment

DE:

The Arnprior detachment dealt with 65 calls for service over the past week. Six of these calls were false alarms.

Arnprior detachment members commented on the higher percentage of seatbelt usage during the Spring seatbelt campaign in the town of Arnprior. However there is still work to be done. There were 33 charges of non compliance in wearing seatbelts. Statistics would show that the proper usage of seatbelts especially in low speed collisions reduce the amount injuries received in a motor vehicle collision.

Constable Dunfield is investigating a Break enter and theft from a shed located on Elgin Street west in Arnprior. The break in occurred between the 30th of April and the 03rd of May. Tools were reported stolen in this break in.

Constable Doherty arrested 38 year old Penny Briscoe of Renfrew on the 03rd of May after receiving information of an intoxicated person on Edey Street. Ms. Briscoe was charged and released upon sobering up for being intoxicated in a public place.

Sergeant Dowdall arrested 23 year old Walter White of Arnprior on the 04th of May at about 1:27 am for breaching his Recognizance release for consuming alcohol. Mr. White will appear at a bail hearing charged with two counts of Breach of Recognizance.

The Arnprior detachment would remind drivers of motor vehicles of the laws pertaining to crosswalks at traffic lights and crossovers in the Town of
Arnprior. Drivers must be attentative to pedestrians using these traffic crossings. Failure to do so could result in demerit losses and a fine if convicted. The onus where a pedestrian using the crosswalk properly is for the driver to stop and yield the right away to the pedestrian. The pedestrian using the crossing should make eye contact with the driver of a vehicle before crossing the street and never take it for granted. If you find yourself using the crosswalk and a violator has contravened this law report this to the Arnprior OPP. Remember collecting as much as possible information for the report as possible for example license plate and description.
